NTEU Joins Other Unions Asking Congress to Defund Schedule F E.O.

Efforts continue in the fight to stop President Trump’s recent Executive Order (EO) that could move tens of thousands of federal employees into a new Schedule F, which would strip them of their civil service protections and allow them to be hired and fired at will.

On October 28th, Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Chairwoman of the Committee of Oversight and Reform, and Representative Gerald Connolly (D-VA), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government and Operations, led all Committee Democrats and Members of the National Capital Region Delegation in a letter calling on the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management to immediately cease the implementation of the Schedule F EO issued by President Trump last week that would make it easier to fire qualified civil servants.  The members demanded an immediate stay on the implementation of the EO while the committee obtains information about its development and potential impacts.  The letter requests all internal or external analyses conducted regarding the potential impacts of the Executive Order on federal employees, agency missions, and services for the American people, among other documents, by November 11, 2020.

In addition, NTEU has joined other federal employee unions in asking the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to include language in the upcoming funding bill to stop the implementation of the EO.  As you know, Congress must act to pass another CR or FY 2021 funding bills by December 11, 2020.

NTEU will continue to work with our allies in Congress to protect your rights and ensure a non-partisan, merit-based civil service.  For more information, click here.
